US President Donald Trump expressed deep displeasure over Russia's bombing of Ukraine over the weekend, saying he was not happy with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I don't know what's wrong with him. What the hell happened to him? He's killing a lot of people. I'm not happy about it," Trump told reporters at Morriston Airport in New Jersey as he prepared to return to Washington.
Trump made the comments in response to Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian cities overnight Sunday, including the capital Kiev.
Trump later made the same comment on his Truth Network.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He’s gone completely CRAZY! He’s killing so many people unnecessarily, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Rockets and drones are being fired at cities in Ukraine for no reason. I’ve always said he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just part of it, and I may be proven right, but if he tries to do that, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”
Likewise, President Zelensky is not doing his country any favors with the way he speaks. Everything that comes out of his mouth is causing problems, I don’t like it, and he better stop.
This is a war that would never happen if I were president. This is a war of Zelensky, Putin, and Biden, not “Trump’s.” “I’m just helping put out big and ugly fires that are being started by great incompetence and hatred.”
The biggest airstrike in the war so far
Russian forces fired 367 drones and missiles at Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kiev, overnight Sunday in the biggest airstrike of the war so far, killing at least 12 people and wounding dozens more.
Trump has been trying to get both sides to agree to a ceasefire in the three-year war in Ukraine, and spoke for more than two hours with Putin last week.
He raised the possibility of imposing additional sanctions on Russia in response to the ongoing attacks.
