China warns Philippines to stop provocations in South China Sea

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

A spokesman for the Southern Combat Region Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Sunday warned the Philippines to stop its violations and provocations in the South China Sea.

Senior Captain Zhao Jiwei, navy spokesman for the Southern Combat Region Command, made the statement in response to a Philippine ship's illegal incursion into China's territorial waters off Huangyan Island on Sunday.

"The PLA Southern Combat Region Command monitored, issued warnings and dispatched the ship in accordance with the law," Zhao said.

According to him, the Philippines' actions seriously infringe on China's sovereignty and violate Chinese laws and relevant international law.

"We strongly warn the Philippines to immediately stop its violations and provocations or face consequences arising from its actions," Zhao added.

Finally, he stated that the Southern Combat District Command remains on high alert at all times, resolutely safeguarding China's national sovereignty and security, and firmly supporting peace and stability in the South China Sea.
