Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) workers today, after a meeting, demanded an urgent announcement of a competition for members of the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM), stating that this would also mean the lifting of the student blockade of RTS.
"Students have been standing at the door of the RTS building for days, but who is essentially blocking the Public Service Broadcaster? REM was supposed to get a new Council on November 4, 2024. However, the most important regulatory body for electronic media in Serbia has not functioned to this day," the RTS workers' union said in a statement.
As they pointed out, "students are once again alarmingly warning about the dramatic shortcomings in the work of our institutions."
"Why are the Parliament and the Parliamentary Committee for Culture blocking RTS with their inaction and prolonging the agony of citizens and employees of the Public Service Broadcaster?", the RTS workers' union asked.
They pointed out that "the Committee for Culture is obliged to end the existing competition due to irregularities that caused seven candidates to withdraw and to announce a new competition" and said: "We demand an urgent response from the Parliamentary Committee for Culture."
