Ukrainians claim HIMARS destroyed convoy full of Russian soldiers, footage released

In the attack carried out on Friday, a convoy of military trucks and buses was hit, which, according to Ukrainian sources and local whistleblowers from the Donetsk region, was transporting Russian soldiers.

The attack was previously coordinated with intelligence forces that located the movement of the convoy.

Local sources speak of a large number of dead and wounded. Videos and photos that later appeared on social networks, and were published by Russian soldiers themselves, show a destroyed bus, damaged trucks and remnants of cluster munitions.

The footage shows uniformed soldiers and military vehicles, which casts doubt on the claims of the Russian authorities that civilians were targeted. The city of Makeyevka, located east of Donetsk, has for some time been an important logistics point for Russian forces in the occupied part of Donbas.

The use of the HIMARS system, which Ukraine received from the United States, allows Ukrainian forces to carry out long-range precision strikes. In combination with cluster munitions, it has proven particularly effective against larger groups of soldiers and military vehicles.
