The president of the Liberal Democratic Party, Čedomir Jovanović, made an unexpected statement while unaware that he was live on air. He revealed that Vladimir Mandić, a member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and former handball player, brought 200 armed members of Atlas security into the Belgrade City Assembly on the day of the large protest in Belgrade on March 15. Jovanović also mentioned that during a fifteen-minute period of silence, someone had used an LRAD device, commonly known as a "sound cannon."
The unusual situation occurred on the Tanjug TV program, where Jovanović was discussing the major protest on March 15 without realizing that the broadcast was live.
"Don't let this be your last show, don't mess with me about the cannons. Why are you doing that? Why not ask Bosnians and Snipers (Marko Bosanac and Slobodan Milutinović Snajper, controversial Novi Sad figures close to the SNS) what happened. They were listening to some louder music," Jovanović remarked, suggesting that the "sound cannon" was simply a nuisance for President Aleksandar Vučić.
When asked by the host if he thought that Vučić had been "set up," Jovanović responded: "No, the whole team, all of them. The way everything is being dealt with, how everything is defended..."
Then the host asked whether Jovanović was referring to the public statements of the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić, to which Jovanović said that the minister knew nothing about the "sound cannon."
"Dačić is not guilty, my friend, I informed him. I showed him the LRAD, he didn’t know it existed. I told him how many there are in the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), how many in the (Intervention) brigade, how many in the Gendarmerie. Four units of the Gendarmerie have four each... But be careful, SAJ didn’t even unpack theirs, SAJ didn’t unpack theirs at all, but these guys used theirs for communication near the Assembly, they had it, but they also fired from another place," Jovanović explained.
He added that someone had used the LRAD to "play some music."
"They played thunder, whether it was a truck or an airplane, it doesn’t really matter, but they played that thunder. They didn’t use the sound cannon to cause injuries, just to scare people, like hearing a car speeding toward you," said the LDP leader.
"Mandić Brought 200 Armed Security Personnel"
Jovanović also said that Vučić's team had been "filling his head all day that after the silence, there would be an attack on the Assembly and the Presidency."
"That's nonsense. What do you need 200 armed people in the City Assembly for? Come on, man, scoundrels and rogues. This country had an army, and it still does. If someone needs to guard the Presidency, bring them, man..." Jovanović said, but didn’t finish his thought.
According to him, a crucial moment occurred during a moment of tribute to those who had died in the collapse of a canopy in Novi Sad when three synchronized incidents took place.
"You know when it broke? It broke at the 11th minute when this happened, because at that moment three events started simultaneously. At the same time, there was an attack on the Intervention Brigade at Dragoslav Jovanović's place and from (Pionirski) Park. Bottles, stones, everything was flying at them. The Intervention Brigade asked to intervene, and Vesko Milić (the head of the Belgrade police department) said – no, raise the shields, duck your head, you have a helmet, take the beatings," Jovanović recounted.
The goal, he claims, was to provoke the Intervention Brigade into reacting, rushing in, and creating "chaos and a mess."
"There was another parallel event in Resavska Street where a group of 40 ran out and charged at students; six of them were arrested from that group of 40. And parallel to these two completely synchronized events, there was that sound played, and the chaos that followed," Jovanović said.
He also mentioned that there were 200 armed members of private Atlas security in the Belgrade City Assembly.
"There were these idiots. They came, you had 200 of them entering the City Assembly in Atlas security uniforms. I found Guri (Goran Radosavljević Guri, a former general of the Serbian police) on Zlatibor, because that was his security; he sold it a year ago. So I called Dačić, and Dačić posted police around the City Assembly. They didn’t leave the City Assembly at all, there were 200 armed ones, and Dačić said – I won’t allow them to leave. And they didn’t allow it," Jovanović stated.
Then, confused, he asked whether the program had started and if they were live, to which the host confirmed. Jovanović responded: "You're not normal, really."
